The 8lbs storm has officially blown in. Did you see the movie The Hangover
this past summer? If so, you will recall that by simply showing the
morning-after chaos one could speculate as to the madness that ensued
the evening before. Let me share with you our “morning-after” after
just one evening with the lovely Piers Malcolm, whom we lovingly refer
to as “Prince Malcolm.” The living room was littered with diapers,
pacifiers, baby bath gear, all the bedding from our bedroom, ear plugs,
a still-vibrating bouncy seat, infant gas-x, couch
cushions,
a hair dryer, breast pump, breast shields, nipple cream, the “Happiest
Baby on the Block” book, an army of swaddle blankets, a notebook
tracking stool counts and two champagne glasses (we were celebrating,
after all). It didn’t take us long to call our real estate agent and
have him cancel our listing. It wasn’t until night four that Piers
decided to give sleeping in his “bed” a try, - a pack n’ play in the
living room. The first two nights were spent in the bouncy seat while
the third night was spent sleeping on the floor – in the comforts of
his sleep positioner, thank you very much. Long story short – OOFDAH!!
How we longed for the days at the hospital when the nurse would whisk
him off, as though on cue, to weigh him or take his temperature. The
realities of home had hit, it was just the two of us and our little
Prince. The next several days, even weeks with our new family member
are all a bit blurry. With that said, we can’t stop looking at and
fawning over our new little friend. We are absolutely in love with him.
He is quite honestly the funniest, quirkiest person that I have ever
met – already I can hardly imagine the world ever existed without him.
In the 24 days our little Peanut has graced us with his presence, this
is what we ‘know’ about him so far:
- He’s a little thinker (and stinker) – loves to take it all in, absorbing his environment
- Loves to be part of the action – hates to fall asleep when there’s fun to be had!
- Hates diaper changes – but continues to make tremendous strides in that department
- Loves his bouncy seat
- Most prized possession – the orange porcupine, “Porky,” hanging from the bouncy seat
- Loves the sound of the hairdryer – has saved him (and us) from complete meltdowns
- Vigorously tries to chew his hands when he is hungry
- Fights us when we swaddle him, but it sure calms him down
- Prefers mom and dad’s finger to the pacifier – but will settle for the pacifier
- Is
a BIG eater! The doc said his stomach can handle about 2.5 oz of food –
oh really? Our guy can take in about 6, even 7, if/when we let him
- Loves
bright lights – especially in the bathroom. In fact, moving the cradle
into the bathroom has crossed my mind more than once
- Loves bath time, just like daddy
- Loves to be held
- Likes to nap on daddy’s belly
- Hates to be burped before he’s completely done eating – he thinks he’s being cut-off prematurely
- Will act as though he is starving, even after 4 + oz. of food!
- May have a future career in dramatics
- Likes when mommy and daddy make up songs to sing to him – or it confuses/distracts him at least
- Loves the sun – the one on his mobile, that is
- Has no problem peeing on daddy and pooping on mommy
- Has
several nicknames already – sweetie p, little p, peanut, baby boy, baby
b, stinker p, prince malcolm, pumpkin pie, muffin – the list goes on
- Is mighty fashionable (according to daddy)
- Is a very active baby – even in his sleep (startles, moans/groans, talks, etc.)
- Can already scoot like it’s nobody’s business when he’s on his tummy
- Is a total boy – has mastered all bodily functions
- Is the cutest baby we’ve ever seen (are we bias?)
- Is as kissable and cuddly as can be
- Looks just like his daddy, but has mommy’s lips, dimple (maybe eyes) and possible temperament
