On the Eve of Your Birth

Dear Little Baby Brother or Sister (which, we've affectionately grown to call you - at least for now),
Tomorrow on Earth Day the world will deliver her greatest gift of all - you. In anticipation of your arrival, I wanted to write you a little note, as the memories of being pregnant with you will soon be replaced by your warm smile, soft skin and precious giggle.
- I remember "knowing" I was pregnant with you, long before any pregnancy test was ever taken
- I remember thinking you were a boy
- I remember thinking you were a girl
- I remember thinking it doesn't matter - we just want a healthy baby safe in our arms
- I remember Auntie Gretchen emailing me and saying "Think Pink"
- I remember Uncle Brook telling Big Brother Piers he was going to have a little sister soon (he didn't know I was pregnant yet - I'm not sure I even "officially" knew)
- I remember going over to Grandma and Grandpa Avdek's for breakfast one Saturday morning, and telling them that baby #2 was on his/her way
- I remember the look of shock and joy when Daddy all but forced Mommy to tell Grandma Carol the good news
- I remember Big Brother Piers patting Mommy's belly proudly
- I remember Piers hugging and kissing Mommy's belly (you!)
- I remember asking Piers where his baby brother or sister was, and him lifting Mommy's shirt to show us
- I remember reading Piers "Big Brother" books
- I remember being scared of having two so close in age
- I remember people telling me that having two so close in age is the best way to go
- I remember almost having a panic attack when I told Auntie Kristi I was pregnant with you - while in line for Spinach Pies at the Renaissance Festival
- I remember we baked lots of cookies over the holidays
- I remember the Diet Ginger Ale - lots of Diet Ginger Ale
- I remember buying the practice baby doll for Piers - he can't wait to be your big brother
- I remember setting the bouncy seat and swing back up, picturing the baby that we would soon be bringing home
- I remember it was a long winter, baby
- I remember how calm you when we first saw  you at the ultrasound - unlike your big bro
- I remember how easy-going you were - for the most part, at least!

We can't wait to meet you tomorrow, Little One. We already love you dearly. Tomorrow the world will become a better place. I wish nothing but the best for you and the wonderful life ahead of you, waiting to be lived.

Love,
Mama
