If You Don't Have Anthing Nice to Say. . . BLOG IT.

I imagine if you have an insatiable appetite for all that is this blog, you must be STARVING by now - blame it summer slack - we promise we will try to get back on track with updated posts.

With that said, the last few weeks have been busy & we haven't been able to decide which adventure to post. We recently stopped into Picosa, a new South American-style restaurant in the former Sophia's location along St. Anthony Main. We also stopped into Duplex, literally, a restaurant inside of a duplex house along Hennepin Ave. Both were fantastic & rightfully deserve their own posting - but, instead, this posting is about to get harry - as in Harry's Food & Cocktails, the newest moniker on the former Nochee along Washington Ave. Excuse the cheesy pun, but Harry's was harry at best. Like a perfectly pressed shirt, it only takes one stain to ruin the whole thing. Harry's has an amazing outdoor patio, a commanding interior & the food was perfectly spiced and sauced - I could eat their green beans everyday and be happy - and let's face it, not that many green beans can have that affect on you. Before I completely rip the service to sheds, I will say that the bus boy and water kid were attentive and ought to apply for serving jobs instead. It took our server a good 10 minutes to greet us. We waited another 10 minutes (at least) for our drinks. When she finally arrived with our drinks, she had the nerve to ask us if we needed more time to look over the menu - with a hint of sarcastic surprise, I responded, "gosh no, we're ready" - hoping she would get the hint. Before I go on, let me back up - Kirk and I know how to appreciate a good meal - we weren't in a hurry, in fact, we enjoy taking our time - however, slow service due to a lack of attention is hard to sit back & enjoy. Finally we ordered. About 30 minutes later she looked over at us again and told us our food would be right out. We decided we might as well order another round of drinks - after all, we might be there awhile. The food finally came. No drinks in sight. We finish our food. Still no drinks. Great, I just ordered a 7 dollar glass of wine to drink with my meal and now I am done eating - at that point, I didn't even want the wine, I just wanted to leave. Finally she drops our drinks off, without so much as a "sorry for the wait." After another 25 minutes (and two more empty glasses) she returned and offered to bring out the dessert menu - was she kidding? After two hours of that nonsense, the last thing I wanted to do was shell out 8 dollars for a scoop of what would probably be, melted ice cream. We thought there was a light at the end of the tunnel when she finally dropped off the bill. However, to our dismay, it was the wrong bill. Boy, it sure was tempting to pay the twenty-dollars-less-than-ours tab she dropped off. But, we're honest, and pointed out her mistake as she whisked the empty bill portfolio off our table, not bothering to ask if we needed change or anything, oblivious to her faux pas. As a caveat, I waited tables for several years - I know, we all have bad nights and what not - but, what bothered me most was the fact that she showed no remorse & didn't offer a single apology - until the final bill came - i.e. tip time. She should have taken care of our drinks, we should have complained to a manager - but instead, we chose to leave her a crap-ass tip and bitch about it on our blog - the right remedy? Probably not, but, it at least feels like revenge and, as we all know, revenge is sweet.
