As Piers heads off to daycare, I wrote (I mean Piers wrote, with mommy's help), a little summary of his habits thus far. I'm sure gonna miss hangin out with my little buddy everyday - hopefully he's a good boy at daycare!!
Eating
I’m a big, growing boy and I sure do like to eat. In fact, I’m well on my way to doubling my birth weight! I eat “on demand” every 2-3 hours. I usually eat 4 oz. of formula at each feeding – sometimes an ounce more, sometimes an ounce less. If I fall asleep before I’m finished with my bottle, I may want another ounce or two within an hour. As a general rule of thumb, start by preparing 4 oz. (Hint – I nap best after a feeding).
Burping
After I eat I like to burp – and, unfortunately, spit-up! I’ve even been known to spit-up a full hour (or more) after I’ve eaten. But, like the doctor said, I’m a “happy” spitter-upper, so, no need to worry. The bummer is, I may need my clothes changed once or twice throughout the day. Hopefully you have a few bibs on hand that I can use, as I will need them!
Sleeping
I’m a curious little guy, therefore, I don’t always like to nap. But, boy, if I don’t, I sure do get cranky!! I might tell you I’m tired by crying/fussing and/or rubbing my eyes. In a perfect world, I would nap about 4 hours a day. A goal might be to shoot for two 2 hour naps. In most cases, there’s no need to wake me if I’m sleeping. Even though I may fight you, a good old-fashioned swaddling helps me sleep. I’m talking arms tucked in and the blanket folded tight. If I’m still upset after swaddling, then I may be hungry, need to burp, or simply need a change of scenery. I’m most likely to nap after I’ve been fed, burped and swaddled – sucking on my pacifier, of course.
Calming
I often suck on a pacifier (and my hands and thumbs!) You will find that the pacifier soothes me and helps me calm down or sleep. Also, I like to be held over the shoulder (like I’m being burped) or like to face outward to see what’s going on around me. If I’m really fussy – I’m either tired or gassy (or, hungry, of course). If I’m gassy, you can bicycle my legs.
Playing
I love to look at bright lights and the animals on my mobile. I also like my bouncy seat and swing, but don’t always stay content there. I’m not a big fan of tummy time, but my parents insist that I at least try for a bit each day – at home and at daycare. At home, I love to lie on my back and look up at the star on my activity mat. Oh, and looking in the mirror can be fun, too. I also like to cuddle and be held - lots! Like most babies, I like music, dancing, books, funny faces/noises and receiving lots and lots of loving attention!!
