Saturday, September 1st, started out like most any other Saturday. We woke up in the morning and walked over to our favorite cafe, the Aster, to enjoy a latte and welcome in an already glorious day. After we finished our drinks we decided to do "the loop," our favorite walk across the Stone Arch Bridge and back over the 3rd Ave Bridge. I never realized it before, but every single time that Kirk and I have stepped onto the Stone Arch Bridge I have commented that it is my absolute favorite view of the city - this time was no different. We paused for a few moments to admire the raging blue Mississippi below us and the sun-filled skyline ahead of us. After a minute or two of that, I was ready to move on with our walk; Kirk had other plans.
After 7 and a half years of dating (okay, so more recently, 2 and a half, but really, who's keeping track?), it was happening, he was asking me to marry him. Even though I happened to be standing up on a ledge (not the ledge, ledge, but off the ground just a bit) and was probably a good foot or so taller than he, as soon as I realized what was happening I said "Oh my god, Get on Your Knees, Get on Your Knees!" It reminded me of the Scrubs episode when Elliott planned her own engagement; I guess I've always just pictured a little knee action at the proposal & made sure I got some. After about a minute of my psycho babble and refusing the ring because I was convinced I would drop it in the river, Kirk finally said, "You haven't said yes yet." "Yes!" I practically shouted.
For those of you that keep up with this blog, then you know, my ideal day wish came true. And it was even more perfect than I could've imagined.
