As we wondered on our Sunday morning walk I had a thirst for a bloody mary that needed to be quenched. I am always looking for the best bloody mary and other than those i prepare myself, I have yet to find one. We were walking across the river observing the hoards of gawlkers on the Stone Arch Bridge looking at the remnants of the 35W bridge collapse from a few weeks ago when I thought of a place to stop for my Sunday bloody, Maxwell's American Pub.
Maxwell's is a small bar along Washington Avenue, a few blocks from the Metrodome. Traditionally, I only think of Maxwell's as a bar with about 300 people jammed into it on a Sunday morning before a Vikings game, but today was different, no Vikings game, no crowds, just a relaxing Sunday morning. We wondered in and sat near the front of the establishment. Maxwell's is a traditional old American style saloon with the bar along the left hand side of the room, with exposed brick walls and a tin ceiling. Both of us ordered a bloody and I was very pleased.
The bloody can with a pickle, olive, lime, jalapeno pepper and a beer snit. The bloody was home made, not that thick mix out of a bottle, had only the slightest hint of a vodka taste, and a nice spice. It was a very tasty and refreshing bloody, which is how they are supposed to taste. Although we didn't order any food, the menu had more options that you would expect from a small bar like this, not just burgers and fries. I was a fan, I will be back. www.maxwellsbar.com/
