After Oktoberfest we decided to take a trip to a small German town on the Romantic Road, the historic, walled town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. This small town was as beautiful as it was difficult to get to. Rothenburg is the Bruges of Germany, locked in time since the 14th century. Although there isn't a lot of "sights" in Rothenburg, the beauty of this town is the slow pace and relaxing atmosphere. If you have ever been to a Renaissance festival in the U.S., you will be right at home here, except for the corny outfits.
We stayed at the Zur Golden Rose http://www.zur-goldenen-rose.homepage.t-online.de/

It was nothing special, but it was very clean, quiet and located next door to a quintessential German beer garden. If you are touring Bavaria, you should make a side trip to Rothenburg, and make sure you stay at least 1 night. Take the nightwatchman's tour, and hear many historic stories of Rothenburg in an entertaining way. http://www.nightwatchman.de
